Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Mark Warner says the federal government has previously kept Special Access Programs (SAPs) hidden from Congress, albeit accidentally.

In our exclusive interview, when asked if he thinks there’s any credence to UAP whistleblower David Grusch’s claim that the federal government is hiding a covert UAP program from Congress, Warner admitted it’s not unheard of.

“Listen, I hope not,” Warner replied before adding, “But there’s not a perfect record.”

Below is a transcript of my latest interview with Warner.

Matt Laslo: “Do you want to investigate that whistleblower more? Gilibrand says she wants to bring him in here…”

Mark Warner: “Here’s the thing. We can’t, we can’t… We take whistleblowers very seriously.”

ML: “Yeah.”

MW: “You know, the committee has met with him. You know, staff have.”

ML: “Recently?”

MW: “Just wait a bit, because I don’t want to—I want to get news on what I can say about that.”

ML: “Yup yup, fair.”

MW: “You know, but we take him seriously. And [ARRO Director] Sean Kirkpatrick —there is a serious UAP, scientifically-based entity that is well-funded, and it’s being pursued.”

ML: “Is that AARO?”

MW: “Yeah.”

ML: “Yeah. You trust them?”

MW: “Yup, yeah.”

ML: “Do you think there are any SAPs that are hidden from Congress? Because that’s…”

MW: “Listen, I hope not.”

ML: “Yeah.”

MW: “You know, but over the years, I’ve—sometimes, I think, by mistake. But there’s not a perfect record.”

ML: “Yeah.”

Since this posted Ask a Pol asked each member of Warner’s Senate Intelligence Committee about the claims. Their responses—no-comments, side-eyes and all—dropping soon…

I cover Congress different. I listen. Learning daily. Even while throwing stones at all the glass houses. This will be a stream of my noteworthy interviews. They're conducted at the US Capitol, if not otherwise noted. Matt Laslo is a veteran congressional reporter, Johns Hopkins University lecturer, fmr. Vice News Tonight/HBO correspondent, etc.
