TRANSCRIPT: Sen. Tim Scott

SCENE: Sens. Ted Cruz and Tim Scott are chatting as the two ride an escalator in the Senate’s basement on their way to vote. The two were joking about playing basketball.

Matt Laslo: “[Senate Banking Committee] Chair Brown tells me SAFER Banking’s a priority for him?”

Tim Scott: “Same ole, same ole, man.”

Scott’s referring to his rule not to do hallway interviews — a rule we always disregard with a smile and a question.

ML: “Yup?”

Scott aide: “You know the drill.”

ML: “Yup.

Scott aide: “Send us an email.”

Laslo laughs.

ML: “C’mon, you know you want shoot SAFER Banking Act down.”

TS: “I did. I did. I almost wanted to say something, but decided it’s not in my best interest.”

Laslo always gets him to talk!

ML: “Hey, we should ball sometime. Have a good one.”

TS: “I’ll do that!”

Scott and his aide catch an elevator up to the Senate floor.
